Blockchain Masterclass
Day 1
Session 1: Disruptive Technologies
What are disruptive technologies and why should we take them seriously? How does technology develop and what are the best practices to manage firms in the wake of improving technologies? Lessons learned on technology management. Case studies include experiences at Eastman Kodak, Xerox, Olympus and other leading global firms and their experiences.
Session 2: A Primer on Blockchain Technology
How and why was blockchain developed? What kind of problems do blockchains help solve? What are the challenges that the technology faces? What are ‘proof of work’, ‘proof of stake’ and other consensus alogrithms.
Session 3: Experiencing a Distributed Ledger System
A hands-on, interactive exercise for the attendees to fully immerse the workings of a distributed ledger system and experience the advantages and challenges.
Session 4: Variations in the Development of Blockchain and which Blockchain is right for you
Description of variations in blockchain, permissioned, non-permissioned, public private. How has blockchain technology affected supply chains and determining provenance of goods? How does developing economies incorporate blockchain to compete in trade against developed nations? The use of blockchain in NGO and charitable ventures.
Day 2
Session 1: Tokenization
Definition of tokenization. What asset classes are being tokenized? Examples of use cases that are using blockchain technology and tokenization to create new business models.
Session 2: Smart Contracts
What are smart contracts and how does blockchain technology facilitate the implementation of smart contracts? Use cases and new business models that incorporate smart contracts.
Session 3: Stable coins and the Future of Money
Definition and purpose. What does pegged currency mean and how does it operate? Why are MNC’s are developing corporate currencies? Latest development of currency by Facebook, Alibaba, Tencent and other social media companies. What are DAOs and DAPPs? How are these different from Fiat currencies? Use of global messaging token or airtime on cellular phone as currency in Africa.
Session 4: Business opportunities of Blockchain in Thailand
Participants brainstorm on ideas to make the discussion relevant to the opportunities present in Thailand.
The Future of Money
Session 1: Background on money
This session will cover concepts of macro-economics on defining money and discussing where does value of money come from. What is the difference between money and wealth? Why do developed nations have greater wealth? Why do currencies fluctuate and how does those fluctuations affect trade. What is the role of banks and financial institutions in the flow of funds. What challenges do developing nations encounter in competing in trade and innovations?
Session 2: Cryptocurrencies
Defining Bitcoin, Etherium and other popular crypto-currencies. What is blockchain technology and how does it enable the infrastructure supporting crypto-currencies. What are decentralized systems and what are the various platforms that support the ecosystem of cryptocurrencies? Discussion on economics of forking a currency. Advantages and challenges of crypto. Basics of investing in crypto: how to open an account, what is a wallet, how to buy, how to sell crypto currencies.
Session 3: Stable Coins
Definition and purpose. What does pegged currency mean and how does it operate? Why are MNC’s are developing corporate currencies? Latest development of currency by Facebook, Alibaba, Tencent and other social media companies. What are DAOs and DAPPs? How are these different from Fiat currencies? Use of global messaging token or airtime on cellular phone as currency in Africa.
Session 4: Initial Coin Offerings
Definition and how does a company participate in an ICO. Some recent case studies. Regulatory responses, how does U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reacted to ICOs. What is the difference between utility tokens and security token? What is Howey rule and how does it apply? Discussion of recent case studies on ICO, including Kick.
